Common Garbage Disposal Device Problems

This guest post is a contributed by Andrew from Plumber in Baltimore , Who is an specialist in  Broken Sink Repair Baltimore and Gas Leak Repair Baltimore

Garbage disposal is a gadget that is installed under the kitchen sink. The purpose of this gadget is to shred food into tiny bits and thus, enabling them to pass through the plumbing system. This gadget is placed between trap of the sink and the drain. The garbage disposal helps reduce the amount of food that end up in the landfill. Some of the common problems that can affect a garbage disposal are humming, wont operate, jamming, leaking, and poor grinding. Humming noise can be caused when something is being jammed in the unit. To solve this problem one should immediately switch off the unit and clear the jam. Only after clearing the jam one should turn the unit on. In case there is no jam and yet you hear a humming noise when the unit is on, there is a possibility that the motor has burnt out. If this is the case the entire you may have to replace the entire unit. The garbage disposal refuses to work despite being turned on then there is a good chance that the reset button has been flipped. You should check the bottom of the unit to ensure that the button hasnt been engaged. If this is the case you should push the red button so as to force a reset. Jamming is another problem that can occur with the garbage disposal. This can happen when glass shards, can tabs, or twist ties are placed in the garbage disposal. You should first remove the object first and then on the unit. If you find no foreign object in the unit, you might need to consult a specialist. In case you notice that there is a leak in the drain pipe of the unit, you should first remove the drain pipe and replace the gasket found in it. You might have to replace the entire unit if you find that the leak is located at the units top seal. If the garbage disposal unit does a poor job, it might be that the unit is worn out. You have no choice but to replace the unit if it is rusted on the inside.
